I think that when you can't wait to turn your life into a movie, things are going well. There are many episodes of my life that would make an amazing book or movie.
  • NYU acceptance. That's right, next fall, I'm off to New York University. Right now, I'm thinking double major in Journalism and International Relations. I'm going to save the world.
  • My job. If only I could accurately describe the insanity that is Schmeck's Villa. From fucking with the crazy bartender to all the shady things that go down, I can't talk about that place without laughing.
  • The lovelife. "Galina, you have the libido of a rabbit." 'Nuff said.
So I think it's safe to say that this has been one of the best times of my life. I hope you all are enjoying yourselves as much as I am.

What boys need to know about girls.

Boys need to know a lot of things about girls. They simply do not understand some of the things that girls do, and they do not understand the motivations behind those things. Some boys do not understand that girls can like football or that “let’s hang out” is not a sexual proposition. Boys also do not understand the female obsession with shoes and handbags. All these points are things that all boys should know about the fairer sex.

Just because a girl smacks her girlfriend on the rear does not mean that a boy is allowed to. A lot of girls are physically affectionate with their girlfriends, but this should not happen with male-female friendships, except in a few rare cases. Also, the physical roughness that characterizes male friendships cannot be brought into a male-female friendship. Most girls do not enjoy being punched in the arm or put into headlocks, like many boys do with their male friends. Of course, some girls enjoy roughhousing, but there is a clear dividing line between a good time and extreme pain.

Certain things, when said, mean different things to boys and girls. For example, “Call me” when spoken by a girl, actually means what it sounds like. However, this does not mean to call right away. If a boy calls a girl right away, he may seem creepy and stalker-like. Being a stalker is the last thing a boy wants to be labeled as. Another example of a phrase that means different things to boys and girls is “Let’s hang out.” To a boy, this often means “let’s make out.” When a girl asks a boy to hang out, it is usually platonic, and does not involve sucking face.

Girls can like manly things, as well. For example, I like to watch football as much as, if not more than, some of my male friends. I do not watch football because I want to fit in with my male friends or for any other reason except that I enjoy it. Many girls like watching football, as well as other traditional “manly” things. I also take shop classes that are predominantly male, because I like working with my hands. Another reason I take wood shop is because I think it is a useful skill for the future. Helpless girls who do not know how to hammer a nail or the difference between a Philips and standard screwdriver might have some trouble fixing things around the house if there is no male present. Not all girls are so helpless, and contrary to popular belief, girls can use power tools every bit as well as boys.

Some girls simply get along with boys better than girls and prefer to spend their time in the company of the opposite sex. However, just because a girl is friends with a lot of boys do not mean that she is fooling around with them all. A girl can spend time with a boy without any ulterior motives, which is something that not many boys can say. Personally, I spend more than half of my free time with my male friends, and I think of them as my friends and nothing more.

Boys who are well groomed and well dressed are always attractive to girls. Most boys neglect their nails and eyebrows, believing that taking care of these problem areas is too “gay.” Unfortunately for these boys, girls pay attention to details. A unibrow or dirty fingernails are huge turnoffs for most girls, including myself. Boys who smell good are also attractive to girls. Clothing is an important detail that boys are starting to focus on more, with stores like Express for Men popping up everywhere. Sloppy or dirty clothes are highly unattractive and show that a boy does not care about his appearance.

Girls have some addictions that boys do not understand. One of these is shoe and/or handbag obsession. Boys do not understand the purpose behind more than three pairs of shoes and one purse. Most girls will say that three pairs of shoes is definitely not enough, taking into account the different styles, such as sneakers, boots, high heels, and sandals. Purses are essentially the same. Girls need different purses for different occasions. A boy can simply put everything he needs into a wallet and put the wallet into his pocket. Girls carry a lot more necessities with them; consequently, they need to lug around a purse all day.

Relationships and communication between boys and girls would be a lot easier if boys understood a few key items. Girls actually do want boys to call them, but not stalk them via telephone. A happy medium is good. Roughhousing and physical contact should also be kept in moderation, because no girl wants to be black and blue from those affectionate punches the male sex enjoys so much. Not everything is about sex with girls, because we believe that spending time with the opposite sex can be much more than getting busy. And finally, girls can do a lot of things that are stereotypically male, such as watch football or use a lathe. When, and if, boys learn these things, interactions between boys and girls will be a lot smoother and not filled with the misunderstandings that occur on a daily basis.

Another School Shooting

Oct. 2, 2006: A gunman took about a dozen girls hostage, killing at least three of them, at a one-room Amish schoolhouse in Pennsylvania's Lancaster County, police said. The shooter was among the dead, and a number of people were injured.

Sept. 29, 2006: 15-year-old Eric Hainstock brought two guns to a school in rural Cazenovia, Wis., and fatally shot the principal, a day after the principal gave him a disciplinary warning for having tobacco on school grounds, police said.

Sept. 27, 2006: Duane Morrison, 53, took six girls hostage at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, Colo. Morrison, sexually assaulting them and using them as human shields for hours before fatally shooting one girl and killing himself.

Aug. 24, 2006: Christopher Williams, 27, went to an elementary school in Essex, Vermont, looking for his ex-girlfriend, a teacher. He couldn't find her and fatally shot one teacher and wounded another, police said. Williams also killed his ex-girlfriend's mother, according to authorities. He shot himself twice in the head after the rampage and was arrested.

That's just fucking sad. I'll write more later.
